Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 20 (NationPress) In a significant operation targeting the interstate illicit liquor trade, the Special Staff of Dwarka District Police successfully dismantled a well-organized network on Friday, apprehending a principal suspect and confiscating a substantial shipment along with the vehicle involved in its transportation.
As part of the ongoing initiative titled “Nashe Par Lagaam, Desh Ko Salaam!!”, Dwarka District Police have ramped up efforts to combat the scourge of drugs and illegal liquor in the capital. Spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kushal Pal Singh, the campaign aims to eradicate unlawful activities and foster a safer, healthier atmosphere for the populace, especially the youth.
In a pivotal move, a dedicated unit from the Special Staff intercepted an interstate supplier named Puskar Kumar (22), son of Gopal Ram, originally from Nainital, Uttarakhand, who had been residing in Mitraun village, Delhi.
Police officials disclosed that the suspect was found in possession of a considerable quantity of illicit liquor, comprising 40 cartons—equivalent to 2,000 quarters—along with a white Hyundai i-20 vehicle, registered as DL-12-CE-XXXX, which was utilized for the illegal transport.
This operation took place during the night of March 12, following a tip-off regarding illicit liquor transportation near Odisha Sadan, along the roadway leading to ITBP School in Sector 16B, Dwarka. Acting swiftly on this information, a raiding team was assembled under the leadership of Inspector Kamlesh Kumar, head of the Special Staff, and under the guidance of the ACP (Operations).
The team, which included Sub Inspector Dinesh Kumar, Head Constables Jagdish and Pardeep, and Constables Jai Bhagwan and Manjeet, set a trap at the targeted location. At approximately 1:50 a.m., the informant indicated the suspicious vehicle. Upon signaling the driver to halt, he attempted to flee, but police managed to apprehend the car after a short pursuit.
Upon thorough examination, it was confirmed that the driver was the accused. A detailed search revealed 40 cartons of ‘Santra’ brand country liquor, clearly labeled “For Sale in Haryana Only,” indicating illegal distribution and transport.
After the seizure, the suspect, together with the confiscated liquor and vehicle, was taken into custody. A case (FIR No. 79/26) has been filed under Sections 33, 38, and 58(D) of the Delhi Excise Act at Dwarka North Police Station.
During questioning, Puskar Kumar confessed to his involvement in the illegal trade, claiming he was motivated by the allure of quick earnings to improve his lifestyle. He disclosed that he was following the instructions of two individuals known as Himanshu and Sonu alias Khota, both residents of Dichaun Kalan.
Authorities further revealed that the accused, who is unmarried and has completed up to Class 10, previously worked at a petrol station in Mitraun village, where he met his associates, leading to his entry into the illicit liquor trade. He also has previous charges under the Arms Act.
Officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify the intended recipients of the liquor shipment and trace its source. Efforts are being made to dismantle the broader network responsible for this illegal trade.
