Bengaluru, April 9 (NationPress) Karnataka BJP chief B. Y. Vijayendra stated on Wednesday that since the establishment of the Congress government in the state, police have been persecuting Hindu activists.

In light of recent incidents involving assaults on Hindu activists in Bhatkal, located in the Karwar district, Vijayendra remarked, "Police abuses directed at pro-Hindu and BJP members are becoming a frequent occurrence. False allegations are being filed, and activists face continual harassment."

He highlighted that, while the case of Kodagu's Vinay Somaiah remains fresh in public memory, the incident involving District Superintendent of Police (SP) M. Narayan physically assaulting Srinivas Naik, a member of a Hindu organization in Bhatkal, is profoundly inhumane, an example of power misuse, and indicative of police oppression.

In response, local BJP members and various Hindu organizations staged protests, blocking the highway throughout the night.

“The inaction of the state government in addressing the behavior of District Superintendent of Police Narayan, who has demonstrated appalling conduct towards Hindu activists, is a highly reprehensible act,” Vijayendra expressed.

He affirmed that this issue will be addressed during the ongoing Janakrosh Yatra.

Previously, Vinay Somaiah, a BJP worker, took his own life, claiming that he was pushed to this extreme due to harassment from Congress MLAs and leaders in Madikeri district.

The BJP has called on the state government to include the Congress MLA and CM's Legal Advisor A. S. Ponnanna and MLA Manthar Gowda in the FIR.

Srinivas Naik, an auto driver and Hindu activist from Hanumanagar in Bhatkal, was reportedly attacked by the Karwar SP during an interrogation at the Sirsi City police station on Tuesday.

Expressing their outrage, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, BJP, and other Hindu organizations organized a protest and surrounded the Bhatkal police station, condemning the SP's heavy-handedness and demanding an apology.
