Kolkata, Jan 15 (NationPress) A political uproar has emerged in West Bengal’s Nadia district due to claims that a sex racket is allegedly running on the ground floor of the residence belonging to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA from Kaliganj. The accusation was made on Thursday by a local TMC leader, escalating tensions in the vicinity.
The TMC leader asserted that a sex racket is operating directly beneath the home of Trinamool MLA Alifa Ahmed and suggested that school and college-aged girls are being lured into this illicit activity. He urged for immediate action to shut down the alleged operation.
In response, MLA Alifa Ahmed refuted the claims, stating that they are part of a conspiracy against her. She clarified that a family restaurant is located on the ground floor of her residence and that the incident arose from a dispute involving a woman at the restaurant, which prompted a police call.
"These allegations are entirely unfounded. The BJP is disseminating this misinformation about me as elections approach," stated the Trinamool MLA.
Meanwhile, police have detained two individuals for questioning regarding the incident.
This situation unfolded in Palashi, under the jurisdiction of the Kaliganj police station in Nadia district. Concerns have been raised about how such an illegal operation can function openly at the home of a public figure. Local residents are also questioning the administration's involvement in this matter and are demanding the immediate closure of this ring, alongside strict legal action against those implicated.
In response to these developments, BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar accused the Trinamool Congress of enabling corruption. “Illegal money collection is widespread in the state. TMC leaders are enriching themselves through unlawful means. The public must reject such corrupt leaders,” Sarkar stated.
This controversy has rekindled memories of a violent incident in Kaliganj from the previous year. In June, a minor girl, Tamanna Khatun, lost her life in a crude bomb attack during TMC celebrations following Alifa Ahmed’s victory in the Kaliganj Assembly bypoll.
The bypolls took place on June 19, with results announced on June 23. Following Ahmed’s substantial victory, a celebratory procession was held by TMC supporters, during which crude bombs were allegedly thrown at the residence of Tamanna Khatun, resulting in the minor’s death.
The victim’s mother later alleged that despite naming 24 individuals in her complaint, only 10 were arrested. She recently attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills, citing ongoing denial of justice for her daughter.
