Bengaluru, June 28 (NationPress) K.N. Rajanna, the Karnataka Cooperation Minister, indicated on Saturday that his fellow Cabinet member, Satish Jarkiholi, who is also the State Public Works Department Minister, may take over as the State Congress President, succeeding Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
This assertion could spark controversy, considering that Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar currently occupies the role.
Both Ministers Rajanna and Jarkiholi are known to be close allies of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Minister Rajanna emphasized that the decision regarding the appointment of the State Congress President rests with the party's high command.
"A transition is likely, but the timing remains uncertain," he stated. "I am confident that Minister Satish Jarkiholi will be appointed to the position. All decisions will be finalized in due time," he added.
Rajanna elaborated, stating, "The Congress party has three power centers: the party high command, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President, and the Chief Minister. Any potential change in the Chief Ministership will be addressed in due course. I am steadfastly aligned with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah—today, tomorrow, and always."
He also dismissed rumors about any discord with CM Siddaramaiah.
Upon being questioned about his previous comments suggesting significant shifts within the Congress-led state government around August or September, Rajanna remarked, "Substantial changes could also occur within the BJP. It's not solely about Congress; there could be developments at the national level too."
"In the BJP, individuals over the age of 75 are anticipated to step back from power. Senior figure L.K. Advani was overlooked for the Prime Minister role for this reason. A similar transformation could happen in the BJP. Politics is dynamic—anything can transpire at any moment," he added.
"One shouldn't leap to conclusions based on my statement regarding an impending revolution within the Congress party. According to the guidelines set by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, individuals are barred from holding power beyond the age of 75. This is why senior leader L.K. Advani was not appointed as Prime Minister. This rule is also applicable to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Why doesn’t the media predict such changes? They consistently speculate about the Karnataka Congress," Rajanna commented.
Karnataka Minister Rajanna recently ignited political discourse by stating that the state would see significant changes post-September, intensifying speculation regarding internal conflicts within the Congress.
Rajanna made these remarks following a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.
As a close associate of CM Siddaramaiah, he had remained silent after being embroiled in a honey trap controversy.
He previously claimed that there was an attempt to honeytrap him during a session in the Assembly, and later in Delhi, expressed his readiness to assume the role of State Congress President currently held by Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar.
He also indicated his willingness to resign from his ministerial position.
Speaking to the press, Minister Rajanna stated, "Allow September to pass—you will witness substantial changes. A revolution is on the horizon."
When queried whether he was alluding to changes in state politics, the Minister confirmed, saying, "Indeed, I am referring to state politics. Everything will commence after September."
Rajanna also mentioned that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is operating under considerable pressure.
