Political Tensions Rise in Jharkhand Following Police Action Against Students in Hazaribagh; Calls for CBI Inquiry Intensify

Ranchi, Dec 11 (NationPress) A significant political controversy has emerged in Jharkhand regarding the police action against students protesting in Hazaribagh. The students are pushing for the annulment of the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination administered by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

The situation escalated in the Jharkhand Assembly on Wednesday, as opposition leaders held protests and demanded a CBI investigation into alleged discrepancies surrounding the examination.

Before the assembly session commenced, AJSU party MLA Nirmal Mahto conducted a sit-in at the main entrance of the assembly. Representing the Mandu constituency, Mahto insisted on a comprehensive CBI inquiry into the claims of examination fraud and the excessive force used against the students.

Showing his support for the students, he stated, “Their demands are legitimate, and there is an attempt to silence the voices of the students.”

Former Chief Minister and BJP MLA Babulal Marandi, addressing the media within the assembly precincts, criticized the administration for implementing the police action and labeled it as “the final blow to the government.”

He claimed, “The examination process was tainted by irregularities, and despite students providing proof of malpractice, their concerns were ignored. A CBI investigation is necessary; the government must deliver justice to the students.”

In response, Jharkhand Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu accused the BJP of manipulating the students' protest for political advantage.

“While peaceful protests are a democratic right, disrupting law and order is intolerable. The government is prepared to address the students' issues, but the BJP is leveraging this movement for its political benefit,” he argued.

Meanwhile, JLKM (Jharkhand Loktantrik Kranti Morcha) MLA Jairam Mahato vehemently condemned the police's actions. He described the injuries suffered by students during the police intervention, stating, “Numerous students have sustained fractures in their legs, hands, and fingers. I will bring this matter to the House and advocate for the students' cause both inside and outside the assembly.”

Mahato criticized the government for dismissing student protests as mere opposition plots. He urged the chief minister and other ministers to directly engage with the students to address their grievances.

“I have a background in student activism, and I stand with them,” he declared, noting that even members of his party were injured during the incident.
