Controversial Posters in Uttar Pradesh Spark Political Debate Ahead of 2027 Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) Controversial posters have emerged in various regions of Uttar Pradesh, including Amethi and Lucknow, depicting the state’s Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, alongside Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party. These visuals have sparked intense political debate as the 2027 Assembly elections approach.
One striking poster, prominently displayed outside Amethi's railway station, features the provocative question: “What do you prefer—‘Dhurandhar’ (masterful) governance or Akhilesh’s ‘Lyari Raj’?” The term 'Lyari Raj' references a notorious area in Karachi, Pakistan, historically recognized for its gang violence.
This comparison has further fueled the ongoing controversy surrounding the electoral campaign.
The poster effectively contrasts two narratives. One side illustrates the violence and unrest associated with Akhilesh Yadav’s administration, while the other highlights the crackdown on organized crime under the current Yogi Adityanath government. At the center, it presents a direct appeal to the public, asking them to make a choice.
This campaign is linked to an organization called 'Youth Against Mafia,' which has its name, along with images and information about its leaders, including the Executive President, General Secretary, and Pratapgarh in-charge, prominently displayed on the hoardings.
Similar posters have also been seen in Lucknow, especially near Lucknow University and Hanuman Setu Mandir. Members of the organization, such as Ashutosh Singh and Abhinav Tiwari, have been actively involved in distributing these posters across numerous locations. They stated that this campaign is not restricted to a single district but aims to spread across at least 10 districts throughout the state.
In an interview with IANS, Abhinav Tiwari expressed that their goal is to engage younger voters. “We aim to reach Gen Z and inform them about past events. We want to demonstrate how conditions have evolved over time,” he remarked.
Ashutosh Singh shared similar views, emphasizing that the initiative is designed to educate the younger generation about historical events. “We want Gen Z to remain aware and not be swayed by caste or religion, particularly in an age driven by Artificial Intelligence,” he explained to IANS.
