Jammu, March 24 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, emphasized on Monday that the fight against militancy cannot succeed without the participation of the community.
While addressing journalists outside the Assembly, the CM mentioned, “My administration is providing support to the Union Home Ministry to ensure that the security environment remains stable in the union territory. Although security is not directly our obligation, I consistently stress that militancy cannot be eradicated without the backing of the populace. The elected government is striving to assist the Lt Governor in maintaining order and peace.”
He responded to inquiries regarding the ongoing anti-terror operation in Sanyal village near the International Border in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district.
“Such incidents have occurred previously, and according to my knowledge, there has been no communication with the terrorists. The search and cordon operation, initiated due to suspicious activities, is ongoing, and we will observe how the situation evolves. This operation is happening in a border area, making it plausible that they have crossed over from the other side. Making any immediate statements would be premature. We will wait to see how events unfold,” he added.
The CM also noted that the recent activities of terrorists in Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, and other regions are attempts to disrupt the existing peace.
Meanwhile, the operation targeting concealed terrorists in the forested regions of Sanyal village in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district has entered its second day on Monday.
Since after 7 p.m. on Sunday, there has been no gunfire exchanged between security forces and the hidden terrorists.
The DGP of the union territory, Nalin Prabhat, is personally overseeing the anti-terror operation in Sanyal village. The DGP arrived at the encounter site along with Bhim Sen Tuti, IGP (Jammu) on Sunday evening.
