What Actions Will Be Taken After the Pune Bridge Collapse?

Mumbai, June 16 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who serves as the guardian minister for Pune district, has mandated the local administration to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the tragic collapse of the Kundmala bridge over the Indrayani River. This unfortunate incident has resulted in the loss of four lives and left 51 individuals injured. He emphasized that strict measures will be enforced against anyone found negligent.

Describing the incident as profoundly unfortunate and distressing, Dy CM Pawar stated, “Initial reports suggest that the bridge was in a dilapidated condition. Thus, a thorough inquiry into this tragedy has been ordered, and I assure that if negligence in maintenance is discovered, appropriate action will be taken against those accountable.”

“The state government stands in solidarity with the victims and their families during this difficult time, ensuring that urgent medical assistance will be provided to the injured. I urge everyone to avoid believing in rumors and to rely solely on official announcements. I appeal for patience and cooperation with the administration,” added Pawar.

In response to the bridge collapse, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged full support to the Maharashtra government for the ongoing relief efforts.

The Chief Minister’s Office stated, “PM Modi, upon his arrival in Cyprus, reached out to CM Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the bridge collapse and expressed his deep sorrow over the incident. He assured the State Government of all necessary assistance for relief operations.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his heartfelt condolences and wishes for a swift recovery for the injured. “I am deeply saddened by the bridge collapse on the Indrayani River in Talegaon, Pune. I spoke with Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Fadnavis about the current situation. NDRF teams nearby promptly joined the rescue efforts, saving numerous lives. I extend my condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the injured's recovery,” he posted on X.

CM Devendra Fadnavis announced that the government will provide financial support of Rs 5 lakh to families of the deceased. Additionally, the state will cover medical expenses for the injured.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated, “The NDRF team has arrived at the site and rescue operations are underway. I have personally contacted the Pune District Collector to ensure all necessary assistance is provided promptly.”

Former Union Minister Sharad Pawar emphasized that the government and public representatives must enhance their vigilance. “During the monsoon, many people visit scenic spots for a break. It is essential for the tourism department and local administration to ensure safety at these destinations to prevent such tragedies in the future,” he remarked.

Baramati MP Supriya Sule, who visited the site, stated, “A major accident occurred due to the bridge collapse over the Indrayani River at Kundmala in Maval Taluka. I visited the site to assess the situation and spoke with local citizens and the victims. Relief operations are ongoing, and I pray for the safe return of the missing individuals.”
