Pune Tragedy: Man Arrested for Kidnapping, Assaulting and Drowning Two Young Sisters

Pune (Maharashtra), Dec 26 (NationPress) In a disturbing incident, the Pune Police have taken into custody a 54-year-old man for the suspected kidnapping, sexual assault, and murder of two minor sisters in the Rajgurunagar area of the city.

The suspect, named Ajay Das, is charged with perpetrating this atrocious crime against the two girls, aged nine and eight, prior to his escape, according to a police representative.

The grim events unfolded on Wednesday when the sisters were playing outside their residence around noon, but they later suddenly vanished.

The family, who was monitoring them, initiated a desperate search in the surrounding area but could not locate them, eventually filing a report at the Khed Police Station in the evening.

In response, Police Inspector Prabhakar More organized teams to conduct a systematic effort to locate the two missing girls, but no leads were found.

Later that night, around 10:30 p.m., law enforcement officials and the family examined the girls' room on the upper levels of their building, leading to a shocking revelation.

The bodies of the two siblings were discovered at Das' residence, submerged in a large drum filled with water, with their heads down and feet up, indicating a murder by drowning.

This discovery caused an uproar in the area, prompting the case to be assigned to a female Investigation Officer, Snehal Raje, as stated by officials. The bodies of the victims were sent to Sassoon Hospital in Pune for autopsy.

Acting swiftly, the Khed Police initiated a manhunt for Das and captured him at a discreet lodging house early on December 26 as he was preparing to escape Maharashtra.

This morning, grieving family members and other relatives staged a sit-in protest outside the police station, demanding that the perpetrator face the death penalty, refusing to accept the remains of the two young girls.

Initial interrogations suggest that Das has confessed to the heinous acts, stating that he felt compelled to kill the girls to keep the matter hidden and prevent them from crying out or drawing attention.

Despite the suspect's arrest, the girls' relatives gathered at the Rajgurunagar police station, insisting they would not claim the bodies until they received justice.

This brutal case of kidnapping, assault, and double murder has drawn strong condemnation from figures including Nationalist Congress Party (SP) Working President and MLA Rohit R. Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sanjay Raut and Kishore Tiwari, as well as local Congress leaders, who criticized the ruling Mahayuti for what they described as an egregious failure in maintaining law and order.
