Chandigarh, March 10 (NationPress) The Punjab BJP's working President, Ashwani Sharma, expressed strong disapproval on Tuesday regarding the offensive and disrespectful comments made by Congress MLA and All India Kisan Congress Chairman, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, towards women.

Sharma stated that such utterances signify a profoundly insensitive attitude and are wholly inappropriate in a civilized and democratic environment.

He also denounced the degrading remarks allegedly made by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann concerning women during the celebration of International Women's Day.

Sharma highlighted the terms 'Patola', 'Bhrind', and 'Pakistan Da Jhanda' employed by the Chief Minister in recounting a college-day story, asserting that such language is unworthy of an individual in the highest executive position in the state.

The BJP representative remarked, "It is regrettable that senior officials in responsible public roles resort to language that undermines the dignity of women."

He noted that Khaira's comments are not only offensive but also indicative of the declining quality of political conversation in Punjab.

Sharma emphasized that women deserve the utmost respect and dignity in society and that leaders should be especially cautious with their language in public discourse.

"Rather than making thoughtless and degrading remarks, the Chief Minister should prioritize the safety, respect, and empowerment of women in Punjab," he stated.

The BJP leader called for both Khaira and Mann to apologize to women for their irresponsible and disrespectful comments.

He further affirmed that the women of Punjab are strong, esteemed members of society, and no political figure should have the authority to belittle them.

Sharma reiterated that the Bharatiya Janata Party will consistently advocate for the dignity, respect, and empowerment of women.

This condemnation follows Khaira's remarks questioning how women celebrating the announcement of Rs 1,000 under the Mawan Dhian Satkar scheme could be expected to bear the brave.

Point of View

The remarks made by political leaders can significantly impact societal values and norms. The criticism from the BJP reflects a growing concern over the treatment of women in political discourse, urging leaders to uphold a standard of respect and dignity in their language.
