Chandigarh, Nov 16 (NationPress) The Punjab BJP Scheduled Caste (SC) Morcha has, on Sunday, called for the establishment of a magnificent memorial honoring the disciples of Guru Tegh Bahadur, who resolutely stood alongside the ninth Sikh guru and made the ultimate sacrifice to defend the religious rights and faith of the Kashmiri Pandits.
Paramjit Singh Kainth, Vice-President of the State BJP SC Morcha, has addressed a letter to both the Central and state governments, urging the construction of a significant memorial dedicated to the memory of Bhai Dayal Das, Bhai Mati Das, and Bhai Sati Das.
“These valiant disciples remained steadfast with 'Hind-di-Chadar' Guru Tegh Bahadur, sacrificing their lives to safeguard the faith of the Kashmiri Pandits when the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb coerced them into conversion to Islam,” he remarked in a statement.
Kainth elaborated that the tyrant emperor Aurangzeb was infamous for his strict Islamic policies, which included reinstating the jizya tax on non-Muslims and orchestrating the destruction of temples and educational institutions.
Forced conversions were imposed, with dire consequences for those who resisted, including severe punishments such as death.
In November 1675, under Aurangzeb’s direct orders, Bhai Mati Das was the first to face a horrific martyrdom in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk. He was bound between two pillars and beheaded.
Bhai Dayal Das was bound and plunged into a large bronze vessel filled with boiling water, while Bhai Sati Das was tied to a stake, wrapped in oil-soaked cotton, and set ablaze.
“During this ordeal, Guru Tegh Bahadur’s fearless disciples remained composed, reciting Gurbani, and the Guru observed the brutality with divine serenity,” Kainth stated.
The martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur delivered a profound message against religious intolerance and injustice. In a striking exhibition of brutality, the Guru’s head was severed, yet his sacrifice became a beacon for the fight for religious freedom, human dignity, and the rights of all faiths.
“There can be no reconciliation between a blood-drenched force and a dignified populace. This sacrifice incited Hindus from their silence, instilling courage to recognize the strength derived from self-respect and sacrifice. Thus, Guru Tegh Bahadur earned the cherished title of 'Hind-di-Chadar' or the Shield of India,” Kainth added.
