In a heartfelt video message, the Chief Minister disclosed that approximately 2,300 villages were flooded, affecting over two million individuals. Tragically, the floods resulted in the loss of 56 lives, leaving 700,000 people homeless and destroying 500,000 acres of crops.
Moreover, the Chief Minister reported that 3,200 government schools were damaged, 19 colleges have been reduced to rubble, 1,400 clinics and hospitals were devastated, and a staggering 8,500 km of roads were obliterated, along with 2,500 bridges collapsing. Mann described this disaster as the most calamitous event in Punjab's history and a significant challenge for the state. He remarked on the resilience of the youth, who risked their lives to save others, as well as the efforts of gurdwaras and temples that provided food and shelter during this crisis, showcasing Punjab's unity.
He emphasized the immediate need to transition from relief efforts to rehabilitation, urging everyone to support farmers in replanting, children in returning to school, and families in rebuilding their homes. This is the essence of Mission Chardi Kala, which signifies strength in adversity and hope in despair.
The Chief Minister called upon every Punjabi, all citizens of India, industrialists, artists, charitable organizations, and the global Punjabi community to come forth, stating that Punjab needs their support now more than ever. He assured that every contribution would be handled with utmost transparency and dedicated solely to rehabilitation efforts. Contributions can be made at www.rangla.punjab.gov.in.
