Chandigarh, May 1 (NationPress) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini criticized his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann on Thursday for politicizing the issue of water distribution, describing it as profoundly unfortunate and contrary to the essence of national unity.

Highlighting that this issue pertains not just to irrigation but to essential drinking water, the Chief Minister asserted that such fundamental human necessities should never be exploited for political gain.

“Punjab is the holy land of the Gurus,” he stated, “and it is disheartening that the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government is neglecting the Gurus' teachings of compassion and humanity.

Stressing that water is a lifeline and not a weapon of politics, Saini remarked that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) “is struggling to come to terms with its loss in Delhi. They presented grand promises to the people of Delhi but faced rejection. Now, they are attempting to restore their image in Punjab, yet they will not find success there either.”

Reflecting on their shared beginnings, Saini mentioned, “Both Bhagwant Mann and I hail from humble backgrounds. We understand how our mothers used to carry water pots over long distances. Therefore, he should refrain from politicizing drinking water. I urge Bhagwant Mann to think independently and respect the mandate given by the people of Punjab, steering clear of animosity between Haryana and Punjab.”

Offering advice to the Punjab Chief Minister, Saini recommended he avoid petty political games regarding water and instead concentrate on Punjab’s development.

“The citizens of Punjab have entrusted him with a mandate. He should prioritize their interests and meet their expectations,” he added.

Saini criticized Mann for previously ordering violence against farmers.

“I have consistently maintained that farmers are the backbone of our nation; they are diligent individuals. Yet, they faced violence. Punjab should move past such lowly politics,” he asserted.

The Chief Minister called for a political approach that transcends party lines, emphasizing a focus on Punjab’s development. He reiterated that the matter at hand is not just about irrigation but about drinking water.

“It is part of our culture, and we have been taught by the Gurus to provide water even to strangers. Historically, there has never been a dispute over drinking water. However, with elections on the horizon in Punjab, AAP is resorting to political maneuvering,” Saini remarked.

He noted that during April, May, and June, there is an increase in water flow due to the heat.

“The population continues to grow, along with the demand for water. Looking at the NCR area, numerous industries have emerged,” he concluded.
