Chandigarh, March 4 (NationPress) Taking a strong position against the protesting tehsildars, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann declared on Tuesday that the government will not yield to corrupt officials who are facing police action for their misdeeds.
The Chief Minister, while visiting to initiate the registration process at Kharar, Banur, and Zirakpur tehsils in Mohali district, noted that revenue officers had staged a mass leave in response to the vigilance actions against corrupt personnel.
He emphasized that the government maintains a strict stance against corruption but ironically, by going on mass leave, these officers are effectively seeking a permit for corrupt practices.
Mann stated that this form of blackmail will not be tolerated and that stringent actions will be undertaken against these arrogant and corrupt officials.
The Chief Minister asserted that their attempts to exert pressure would not be accepted under any circumstances and that exemplary measures would be enforced.
He announced plans to recruit new tehsildars and revenue officers shortly, with the agenda to be presented to the Cabinet.
CM Mann clearly stated that these officials routinely harass ordinary citizens, an issue that will no longer be overlooked, and the government will impose strict penalties on them.
He warned those going on mass leave that upon their return, the people will decide the conditions under which they will resume work.
The government is prepared with a ‘Plan B’ to address such disruptions, and if necessary, the responsibilities of tehsildars may be assigned to teachers and professors to ensure a seamless registration process.
CM Mann reiterated the government's commitment to protect the interests of the common people at all costs and affirmed that no one would be allowed to take advantage of them.
To minimize any inconvenience caused by the strike, Punjab Civil Services officers, kanungos, and senior assistants (who have successfully completed all departmental exams for promotion to the naib tehsildar position) have been appointed as Sub Registrars to ensure smooth operations.
