Chandigarh, Nov 1 (NationPress) In a significant achievement in the relentless pursuit of ensuring Punjab's safety as mandated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in collaboration with Bathinda Police, has captured a notorious criminal known as Ranjit Singh, also referred to as Sapp, hailing from Bangi Nihal Singh village in Bathinda, as confirmed by the Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, on Saturday.
Law enforcement officials have seized an illegal .32 bore pistol along with four cartridges from his possession.
DGP Yadav disclosed that initial investigations indicate that the suspect is a close accomplice of gangster Rammi Machana and is wanted in two separate criminal cases.
Moreover, in September, police had confiscated 130 grams of heroin, a 9 MM country-made pistol with six cartridges, and a country-made .12 bore pistol from his home.
During that incident, his mother, Paramjit Kaur, was apprehended, but Ranjit managed to evade capture.
The DGP emphasized that further investigations are in progress to uncover both backward and forward linkages in this case.
Elaborating on the operation, AGTF Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Promod Ban stated that acting on credible intelligence, police teams from AGTF, under the leadership of AGTF Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajan Parminder in conjunction with Bathinda Police, arrested Ranjit Singh from Bhagwanpura village in Bathinda.
Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amneet Kondal noted that Ranjit Singh has a documented criminal history with numerous charges against him, including murder, house trespass with intent to inflict harm, violations of the Arms Act, Prisons Act, and NDPS Act.
In this context, an FIR dated September 20 has already been filed under Section 21 (b) of the NDPS Act and Sections 25 of the Arms Act at Sangat police station in Bathinda.
