Bhubaneswar, July 20 (NationPress) In a remarkable turn of events, the minor victim who suffered severe burn injuries after being set ablaze by unidentified assailants in the Balanga region of Odisha's Puri district was airlifted to AIIMS Delhi via an air ambulance on Sunday for specialized treatment.
Medical teams from both AIIMS Bhubaneswar and Delhi accompanied the patient during her transfer to the national capital.
The young victim was transported from AIIMS Bhubaneswar to Biju Patnaik International Airport through a dedicated 11km-long green corridor.
In a statement to the media, Ashutosh Biswas, the director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, explained, “We initiated the process to airlift the victim to AIIMS New Delhi. The patient’s condition is stable, prompting the decision to transfer her to New Delhi, undoubtedly one of the premier medical facilities in the country. A team of doctors from both AIIMS locations, along with some family members, will accompany her during the journey.”
He also noted that the victim’s internal organs, including her kidneys and lungs, which were affected by the burn injuries, are showing signs of improvement.
This horrifying incident has left the people of Odisha and the entire nation in shock, as a minor girl was reportedly set on fire by unknown attackers near a river embankment under the jurisdiction of the Balanga police.
The victim’s mother, Mahmuda Bibi from Nuagopalpur village, lodged a complaint stating that her daughter was allegedly targeted by miscreants who doused her with petrol and kerosene in a heinous attempt on her life.
Remarkably, the girl managed to escape and sought help at a nearby residence.
The community swiftly rallied to assist her, transporting the victim to Pipili Community Health Centre, from where she was subsequently referred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar due to the severity of her injuries.
The attack, which occurred on July 19, has prompted immediate police action, including the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
