New Delhi, Jan 29 (NationPress) The Chairman of Rajya Sabha, C.P. Radhakrishnan, has called upon all Parliamentary party leaders and members to collaborate in ensuring that the Budget Session proves to be a fruitful and significant milestone in our pursuit of a thriving, self-sufficient, and Viksit Bharat, as stated by an official on Thursday.
“Let’s unite to make this Budget Session a triumph, showcasing the utmost principles of Parliamentary democracy,” he expressed during his address at the commencement of the 270th Session of the Rajya Sabha, marking the Budget Session of Parliament.
He noted, “Throughout the 30 sittings, we will conduct a comprehensive review of the Union Budget 2026-27 and the government’s legislative proposals. Additionally, the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committees will rigorously assess the Demands for Grants of various Ministries and Departments during the recess.”
Highlighting the recent economic advancements, the Vice President remarked, “It is genuinely encouraging to see that India remains the fastest-growing major economy globally and is on track to become the third-largest shortly.”
“As we begin this Session, let us remember that India’s expanding influence and status in the global economy makes our responsibilities as parliamentarians vital in directing the nation’s economic course,” he added.
He encouraged all members to make impactful contributions to discussions both in the House and in committees.
The Vice President also urged members to uphold the principles of democracy, discipline, and enlightenment as envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi.
Quoting Gandhi, he stated, "Mahatma Gandhi believed that 'Democracy - disciplined and enlightened, is the finest thing in the world’ and our behavior in the House should embody this discipline and enlightenment."
“In addition to the crucial discussions on government budgetary proposals, we have a series of significant Bills requiring substantial business transactions in the House,” he mentioned.
“The extent of legislative work emphasizes our grave duty to utilize every moment of the scheduled business of the House to fulfill the aspirations of the people we represent,” he added.
“I appeal to Members to actively engage in exercising robust Parliamentary oversight and to maintain the highest standards of parliamentary decorum and order, enabling the House to conduct meaningful business,” he said.
Discussing the importance of dialogue in a democracy, he stated, “Our democracy thrives on diverse viewpoints and vigorous debate. Respectful exchanges and constructive discussions should be the norm in our parliamentary discourse. Let us pledge ourselves to a Session characterized by decorum, discipline, and dignified conduct.”
