New Delhi, April 18 (NationPress) Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan announced that the House achieved a remarkable productivity rate of 109.87% during the recently concluded 270th Session, which lasted for a total of 157 hours and 40 minutes.
“As we wrap up the 270th Session of the Rajya Sabha, we officially conclude the Budget Session of Parliament,” he conveyed to the Members.
Radhakrishnan noted that throughout this Session, the House addressed 117 questions, received 446 zero-hour submissions, and recorded 207 special mentions.
The Budget Session is deemed the most critical among the three sessions of Parliament. Not only is it the longest, but it also plays a pivotal role in determining the trajectory of the nation’s development, he stated.
The budgetary provisions approved, policies ratified, and priorities established during this Session significantly impact the lives of every citizen in Bharat, he emphasized.
The Session began with an extensive discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address, which lasted four days and saw participation from 79 Members who engaged with vigor and sincerity. The Prime Minister's response to the Motion brought clarity to various points raised by Members from different parties.
The dialogues regarding the Union Budget 2026–27 were equally thorough and engaging, spanning four days and involving 97 Members. Additionally, the House engaged in significant discussions about the operations of two key Government Ministries, he added.
The Chairman also highlighted that 50 Private Members’ Bills were introduced during this Session.
This Session marked the re-election of Harivansh Narayan Singh as the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha for the third consecutive time, he noted.
Recapping the key events, the Chairman mentioned that besides discussions on the Union Budget for 2026–27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a suo motu statement addressing the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the challenges facing the country in securing its energy needs.
