New Delhi, Nov 8 (NationPress) The Vice President, C. P. Radhakrishnan, is set to embark on his inaugural visit to Karnataka this Sunday, following his appointment in September, as confirmed by an official statement.
During his trip to the southern state, he will honor the legacy of Parampujya Acharya Shri 108 Shanti Sagar Maharaj Ji at Shravanabelagola, Hassan, commemorating the centennial of the revered Jain monk's first visit there in 1925.
The event will include the 'Installation Ceremony' of Acharya Shri Shanti Sagar Maharaj's idol and the 'Naming Ceremony' of the Fourth Hill.
Later, the Vice President will participate in the sixteenth Convocation Ceremony of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research in Mysuru, affiliated with the Jagadguru Sri Veerasimhasana Mahasamsthana Math, and deliver a speech to the graduates.
Additionally, he will visit the historic site of Suttur Math, one of the most significant monastic centers in Karnataka.
He will also pay his respects at the Shree Chamundeshwari Devi Temple near Mysuru and the Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple in Melkote, Mandya.
On Saturday, he emphasized the remarkable contributions of Jainism, one of the oldest religions globally, highlighting its principles such as Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (truth), Aparigraha (non-possessiveness), and Anekantavada (multiple perspectives on truth), which have significantly influenced India and beyond.
At the Eighth 180 Upvas Parna Ceremony of Jain Acharya Shri Hansratna Surishwarji Maharaj Ji in New Delhi, he noted that Ahimsa, championed by Mahatma Gandhi, continues to inspire peace initiatives worldwide.
The Vice President further underscored the global recognition of the Jain principles of vegetarianism, compassion towards animals, and sustainable living as exemplary models of environmental stewardship.
Reflecting on his personal journey, he revealed he adopted vegetarianism 25 years ago after visiting Kashi, noting that it fosters humility, maturity, and love for all living beings.
He praised the government's initiatives, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to grant 'Classical Language' status to Prakrit and preserve Jain manuscripts through the Gyan Bharatham Mission.
