New Delhi, Nov 14 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has voiced his thoughts on the Bihar election results, describing the NDA's victory, surpassing 200 seats, as “truly surprising”. He asserted that the election process “was not fair from the start”.
On social media platform X, LoP Rahul Gandhi expressed his gratitude to the millions of voters supporting the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), indicating a more intense confrontation with the current government regarding democratic institutions.
“I sincerely thank the millions of voters in Bihar for their trust in the Mahagathbandhan,” he stated.
“The Bihar results are indeed astonishing. We did not secure a victory in an election that lacked fairness from the beginning. This battle is aimed at safeguarding the Constitution and democracy. The Congress Party and the INDIA Alliance will conduct a thorough review of these results and enhance their efforts to defend democracy.”
This statement followed a disappointing performance for the Mahagathbandhan, which was reduced to fewer than 40 seats, with the Congress party itself falling to a disheartening 5-6 seats from 61 contested.
Rahul Gandhi’s comments resonated with party colleague Jairam Ramesh’s prior accusation of “vote chori on a gigantic scale”, although he did not specifically call out the Prime Minister, Home Minister, or Election Commission.
Congress insiders disclosed that LoP Rahul Gandhi held a virtual meeting with Bihar leaders, directing a “forensic audit” of voter deletions, discrepancies at polling booths, and logs of EVM movements.
Party members reported that over 18 lakh names, primarily from Muslim, Dalit, and EBC demographics, were removed during the special summary revision, a figure that the Election Commission refuted as “standard cleansing” involving 14.7 lakh duplicates and 3.2 lakh deceased voters.
Responses within the INDIA Bloc were cautious. RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, whose party saw a reduction from 75 to 31 seats, commended Rahul Gandhi’s “moral clarity” but emphasized the need to address “organisational collapse” in addition to alleged institutional sabotage.
CPI(ML) Liberation’s Dipankar Bhattacharya supported the claim of an “unfair election”, referencing CCTV blackouts in 127 strong rooms.
The BJP was quick to respond. Spokesperson Sambit Patra characterized it as “the whining of a prince who lost his toy kingdom”, while Amit Shah shared a video of women voters praising Nitish Kumar’s welfare initiatives.
“Bihar’s daughters have rejected the dynasty. Rahul ji should reflect instead of demeaning their decision,” Patra remarked.
As the Congress prepares for municipal elections in Delhi and Rajasthan, Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to “intensify” the constitutional struggle suggests a potential for nationwide protests, legal challenges to the Election Commission's revision process, and a renewed focus on electoral integrity through the Bharat Jodo initiative.
