Kolkata, Nov 15 (NationPress) In a coordinated effort with the West Bengal Police, agents from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended an M.B.B.S. student from Al-Falah University in Faridabad. The arrest took place in Dalkhola, located in the North Dinajpur district of West Bengal, as part of the investigation into the recent car explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi, confirmed state police sources on Saturday morning.
The individual taken into custody has been identified as Nisar Alam. Although he and his family have resided in Ludhiana, Punjab, for some time, their ancestral home remains in Dalkhola.
Reports indicate that Alam had recently traveled to Dalkhola with his mother and sister to attend a family gathering. The NIA tracked his mobile signal to Dalkhola, prompting the central intelligence agency to conduct the operation that led to his arrest on Friday.
Post-arrest, Alam was initially taken to the Islampur Police Station for a thorough interrogation lasting a few hours, before being transferred to Siliguri in the Darjeeling district. As of Saturday morning, it seems likely that the NIA will seek a transit remand to bring him to Delhi.
Residents of Konal village in Dalkhola, where Alam's ancestral house stands, expressed surprise at his arrest. They described him as a well-mannered and soft-spoken individual, stating, “We never suspected his involvement in any insurgency activities.”
Al-Falah University, a private educational institution situated about 27 km from the Haryana-Delhi border on Raga Road in Faridabad, has gained national attention following a series of alarming events, including a significant recovery of explosives and the recent blast at the Red Fort that resulted in 12 fatalities and numerous injuries.
In recent days, police teams have frequently visited the Al-Falah University campus, interrogating around 52 medical professionals as part of their investigation. Authorities are currently seeking information concerning Dr. Muzammil Shakeel, Dr. Shaheen Shahid, and Dr. Umar Mohammed, who are suspected of operating a Jaish-e-Mohammed terror module.
