The Chief Minister’s Office reported that during the approximately 20-minute communication, CM Revanth Reddy emphasized the promptness of the government's response following the collapse of a section of the tunnel's roof, which is currently under construction, on Saturday.

CM Reddy informed Rahul Gandhi that Irrigation Minister Uttam Reddy was dispatched to the incident site, while teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were mobilized for rescue operations.

The Chief Minister detailed the measures implemented for medical assistance to the injured and for connecting with the families of those trapped.

Previously, the senior Congress leader voiced his shock regarding the situation. “I am profoundly troubled to hear about the tunnel roof collapse in Telangana. My thoughts are with those trapped and their families during this challenging time,” Rahul Gandhi posted on ‘X’.

“I have been informed that rescue operations are proceeding, and the state government along with disaster relief teams are making every effort to swiftly rescue those in peril,” he added.

At least two workers sustained injuries while eight others remained trapped when a section of the tunnel, part of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC), collapsed near Domalapenta.

During the incident, a total of 50 individuals were working on the left-side tunnel when the roof collapse extended over three meters. The accident transpired at the 14th km mark.

While 42 workers managed to exit the tunnel, the remaining eight, including two engineers and two machine operators, remain trapped.
