The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) captured Deputy Mayor posts in all six Rajasthan municipal corporations that held elections on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, leaving the Indian National Congress (Congress) without a single win. The results extend BJP's commanding run in the state's urban local body elections and deepen Congress's losses just days after the party was swept in Monday's mayoral contests.

Key Results Across Corporations

In Udaipur, BJP's Dinesh Bhatt recorded the most decisive victory, securing 56 of 80 votes against Congress candidate Lakshminarayan Meghwal's 24 — a margin of 32 votes. In Alwar, BJP's Ajay Poonia prevailed 40–24 over Congress's Mamta Saini, with one vote declared invalid, consolidating BJP's grip on the corporation a day after Sumanlata Agrawal was elected Mayor.

Two contests were settled by lottery. In Ajmer, BJP's Hemant Sankhla and the Congress candidate both received 40 votes, and Sankhla was declared the winner through a draw. In Pali, Independent candidate Mahboob T won the Deputy Mayor post via lottery after the vote ended without a clear majority — a notable result in a corporation where BJP had already won the mayoral post through cross-party support despite holding only 21 of 65 ward seats.

The Bikaner Upset

The most closely watched contest was in Bikaner, where Congress holds the mayor's chair. Congress's Anil Kalla had defeated BJP's Surendra Singh Shekhawat by 50–30 in the mayoral vote, and Congress commanded the largest councillor bloc in the 80-member corporation. Despite this numerical advantage, BJP's Pankaj Gehlot won the Deputy Mayor election. In Mathania Municipality of Jodhpur district, Congress councillors arrived by bus for the Vice-Chairperson election. In Jalore Municipal Council, Congress's Sayyad Mumtaz Ali bucked the trend, winning the Deputy Chairperson election 25–15 over BJP's Manish Parmar. In Barmer, BJP councillors retrieved their mobile phones after 13 days, having surrendered them when moved to a secure location during post-election activity.

Pending Elections and Model Code Status

The State Election Commission issued a revised schedule for Khatu Shyamji Municipality in Sikar, where the Chairperson election will now be held on 25 September and the Vice-Chairperson election on 26 September. The earlier schedule was disrupted after Congress councillor Lakshmi Devi of Ward 10 failed to appear, leading to the sealing of voting records.

The Model Code of Conduct remains in force in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Suket, and Khatu Shyamji, where elections are yet to conclude.
