Jaipur, Jan 31 (NationPress) Two devotees from Rajasthan tragically lost their lives in a recent stampede that took place in the early hours of Wednesday during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, which resulted in the deaths of 30 individuals and injuries to 60 others.
The deceased, who had made the journey to Prayagraj for the auspicious Mauni Amavasya bath, were identified as Nihali Devi (60) from Ajmer and Baldev Singh (58) from Dholpur.
Reports indicate that Nihali Devi traveled to Prayagraj with her husband, Ramnarayan Bairwa.
Before partaking in the Maha Kumbh bath on January 27, she visited the Ram Temple in Mathura, Vrindavan, and Ayodhya on January 22, accompanied by a group of 50 pilgrims.
At approximately 1:30 AM on January 28, just 300 meters from the Sangam coast, a stampede erupted, causing Nihali to become separated from her husband.
Ramnarayan searched frantically but was unable to locate her. The following day, on January 29, he received notification from the control room that Nihali's body was at a hospital in Lucknow.
He made the trip there and returned to his village on Thursday afternoon with her remains.
Baldev Singh, who resided in Nidhera Khurd in the Kolari area of Dholpur, also lost his life in the stampede while heading back from the bath.
He had arrived in Prayagraj by train with five friends. His family is expected to receive his body in Dholpur by Friday morning.
Among those unaccounted for post-stampede is Supyar Devi (60) from Bhankrota, Jaipur. She had traveled to the Kumbh with her husband, Durgalal Meena, and has been missing since the incident. Durgalal has filed a missing person report at the Samudra Koop police station near the Kumbh site in Prayagraj.
Supyar Devi’s son, Rajendra Meena, a resident of Madhorajpura in Bhankrota, mentioned that his parents had departed for the Maha Kumbh with other villagers on the evening of January 27. He received a call from his father regarding his mother’s disappearance. Rajendra has since left Jaipur to search for her.
Another missing devotee is Rajkumari Pareek from Amer, Jaipur. She traveled to Prayagraj with her family on January 29 and was last seen at 6 AM on Wednesday.
Pyari Devi (70), the wife of Mohanlal Sargara from Mandia Road, Shiv Colony, Pali, also got separated from her group amid the chaos on Wednesday.
Her companions searched for her but were unable to find her. Fortunately, she later received help from a group dressed in traditional Rajput attire and was safely reunited with her group.
Authorities persist in their efforts to locate the missing devotees as families anxiously await updates on their loved ones.
