Rajasthan: Eight Individuals Sentenced to Life in Malpura Riot Case

Jaipur, Dec 3 (NationPress) A specialized court in Jaipur, Rajasthan has delivered a life sentence to eight individuals involved in the 2000 Malpura riot case in Tonk.
Meanwhile, five others were found not guilty due to insufficient evidence. The violent turmoil resulted in the tragic loss of six lives, which included two minors.
In its ruling, the court highlighted the heinous nature of the murders, pointing out that the offenders employed sharp weapons during their assaults.
The ruling emphasized that such acts of violence deserved no mercy.
Advocate Purushottam Banwada, who represented the victims, recounted that the conflicts in Malpura stemmed from disputes between two communities.
“The decisions in the other two cases are anticipated shortly,” Banwada stated.
Hariram and Kailash Mali were among the victims whose cases were integral to the judicial proceedings. Both communities involved lodged complaints, with verdicts issued in two cases so far.
In the case of Hariram's murder, the court sentenced Islam, Mohammad Ishak, Abdul Razzaq, Irshad, Mohammad Zafar, Sajid Ali, Bilal Ahmed, and Mohammad Habib to life imprisonment.
Dhanni Devi, Hariram’s widow, had reported the incident to the Malpura police on July 10, 2000. She claimed that her husband was attacked with sharp weapons while they were on their way to the fields, resulting in his death.
In the murder case of Kailash Mali, the court acquitted five suspects due to lack of compelling evidence. The FIR in this instance was filed by Kailash’s son, who recounted that villagers had alerted him to the event.
Upon his arrival, the crime had already been committed, and he did not witness the attack on his father. The defense attorneys contended that the absence of eyewitnesses undermined the prosecution's case, leading to the acquittals.
