Is Daily Newspaper Reading Mandatory in Rajasthan's Government Schools?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Jan 1 (NationPress) The Education Department has introduced a groundbreaking and praiseworthy initiative designed to bolster reading habits, improve language proficiency, and foster an understanding of current events among students enrolled in government schools throughout the state.
In this new scheme, daily newspaper reading has been mandated for all government school students in Rajasthan.
According to the guidelines, 10 minutes will be allocated during the morning assembly each day for reading significant national, international, and sports news, along with editorials and major updates.
Furthermore, five new vocabulary words, complete with their definitions, will be introduced daily to enhance students’ lexicon.
This task will be managed by students from grades 6 to 12, as directed by the School Education Secretary.
The Education Department is optimistic that this initiative will spark students’ interest in news, broaden their knowledge base, and lead to improvements in their language and communication abilities.
The objective is to cultivate aware, informed, and confident citizens.
On “No Bag Day,” a community assembly will be organized to deliberate on current events.
Senior secondary schools are required to subscribe to at least two newspapers (one in English and one in Hindi). Each government upper primary school must subscribe to two Hindi newspapers. English-medium government schools should have at least two subscriptions (one English and one Hindi).
During the morning assembly, one English and one Hindi national newspaper must be read aloud.
“This initiative by the Education Department aims to equip students with national, international, and sports-related information, while simultaneously fostering their reading habits,” stated the School Education Secretary.
