Jaipur, June 18 (NationPress) A cow smuggler was killed while another was injured during a clash between the police and cow smugglers in the Deeg district of Rajasthan on Wednesday.

According to an official report, the shootout lasted for approximately 30 minutes, leading to the death of one smuggler and injuries to another.

“Three police officers were also hurt, but their bulletproof vests absorbed most of the impact,” he added.

Police sources indicated that a man identified as Hasam, also known as Kadha, was riding a motorcycle and escorting a Tata 407 truck filled with cows, accompanied by his son Aashiq and two other individuals.

“Upon receiving a tip-off, the police managed to intercept them near Ghatmika village. When the smugglers noticed the police, they opened fire immediately,” he stated.

In response, the police returned fire, causing the remaining smugglers to flee the scene with the Tata 407 truck amidst the sound of rapid gunfire.

During the encounter, Aashiq, the son of Hasam, succumbed to bullet injuries. Hasam was also wounded and subsequently transported to RBM Hospital in Bharatpur for medical treatment. Three police officers suffered injuries during the exchange, but their bulletproof jackets minimized the injuries.

A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has been dispatched to the site to investigate the situation and assess the number of rounds fired by both parties.

Deeg SP Rajesh Meena noted that Hasam, a resident of Kanwadi village, has a bounty of Rs 45,000 on his head and is facing around 15 criminal cases across Deeg and other districts.

He is recognized as a habitual offender who has previously fired upon police officers. Police recovered two pistols and a cartridge belt from him at the scene of the encounter.
