Indore, June 18 (NationPress) A team from Meghalaya Police visited the residence of Sonam Raghuvanshi on Wednesday, the main suspect in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. They interrogated her family as part of their ongoing investigation into this tragic case.
The police officers arrived at Sonam's home in the Govind Nagar area under the Banganga police station in Indore and spoke with her father, Devi Singh, brother Govind Raghuvanshi, and mother, as reported by IANS.
Having arrived in Indore on June 17, the police aimed to deepen their inquiry into the disturbing murder of Raja, who was killed during a honeymoon trip in Shillong on May 23.
The Meghalaya Police also visited Raja's family home and interacted with his relatives, including his mother, on the same day.
A team from the Indore Crime Branch accompanied the Meghalaya officers.
Sonam was apprehended in Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh, on June 9. The Meghalaya Police also examined a flat near Dewas Naka on the Agra-Bombay Road to validate information gathered from the interrogation of five suspects currently in custody and to gather additional evidence.
Following preliminary investigations, the Meghalaya Police indicated that, after allegedly murdering Raja, Sonam returned to Indore and resided in a rented place from May 25 to June 7. She later traveled to Ghazipur in a vehicle arranged by Raj Kushwaha.
The flat Sonam is believed to have vacated on June 7 yielded few clues beyond some clothing and utensils. Authorities suspect she deliberately destroyed evidence of her stay prior to her departure.
Indore's Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajesh Dandotia, informed IANS that a dedicated crime team from Indore's police is aiding the Meghalaya Police in their investigation concerning Raja's murder, with Sonam being a pivotal suspect.
“The Meghalaya Police reached out to us for assistance during their visit,” Dandotia stated. “A crime branch team is assigned to aid them. They will depart Indore once their investigation concludes.”
When asked for more details regarding the ongoing investigation, particularly the recent visit from Meghalaya police, Dandotia remarked, “They haven’t shared specifics with us.”
The discussions between the Meghalaya Police and Raja Raghuvanshi's family revealed that investigators are keen to learn more about Sonam's behavior, as she remains in judicial custody in Shillong.
During their late-night visit, the Meghalaya Police met with Raja's family, including his mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, for about half an hour, inquiring into Sonam's conduct during her brief stay at Raja's home.
Raja’s elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, shared with the media, “A three-member team from Meghalaya visited us. They were here for about half an hour, asking about Sonam’s behavior and how long she stayed with us post-wedding.”
It is noteworthy that Raja and Sonam married on May 11 in Indore, and she lived with Raja until May 13. She returned to her parental home on June 14, and the couple departed for their honeymoon to Meghalaya on May 21.
Tragically, two days later, on May 23, Raja was murdered, and his disfigured body was recovered from a gorge near a waterfall in Meghalaya's Sohra area on June 2. The Meghalaya Police earlier indicated that although Sonam admitted to her involvement in Raja's murder during cross-examination with another suspect, Raj Kushwaha, she was answering police questions with apparent cleverness.
During cross-examination, it was also revealed that Sonam, along with her alleged boyfriend and co-accused, Raj Kushwaha, had begun planning Raja's murder even before their marriage.
Sonam's detailed confession indicated that she orchestrated the entire plan with the cunning of a seasoned criminal.
Indore's Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajesh Dandotia, commented, “The Indore police are assisting the Meghalaya police, but they haven’t provided us with any details.” The Meghalaya team also inspected a flat in Indore’s Dewas Naka area, where Sonam reportedly stayed between May 25 and June 7 after returning from Meghalaya.
