Jaipur, March 15 (NationPress) The police force in Rajasthan opted out of the Holi festivities on Saturday as a way to emphasize their longstanding requests, particularly the need for timely promotions.
While only senior officials participated in the police lines, junior officers chose to forgo the celebrations to advocate for their enduring demands.
The primary requests from the police include enhancements to the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) procedures and modifications to their service conditions.
As per the Civil Security Coordinator Committee, police personnel ranging from constables to inspectors have multiple significant demands.
However, the committee noted that their voices remain unheard due to the lack of a recognized union.
“Numerous jawans have shown dissatisfaction over the stagnation in promotions, pointing out that constables often retire from the same post after many years of service. In contrast, employees in other government sectors receive timely promotions,” the panel mentioned.
In the meantime, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has voiced his support for the protesting officers and urged the Bhajanlal government to act swiftly.
“After ensuring a peaceful and joyous Holi celebration for the public yesterday, today, our policemen are opting out of Holi due to their longstanding demands. I implore Chief Minister Shri @BhajanlalBjp to step in and make a favorable decision regarding their issues,” stated Gehlot.
He further emphasized that police personnel have been advocating for promotions via DPC, an increase in mess allowance, and weekly leave - concerns that were previously addressed in Budget discussions.
“Holi is a festival that occurs once a year. Our Leader of Opposition and several MLAs have already brought these demands to the Assembly, and we will persist in strongly advocating for them before the government,” Gehlot added.
Gehlot also urged the police officers to reconsider their boycott and partake in the Holi celebrations.
