Jaipur, June 10 (NationPress) Shakur Khan, an employee of the Rajasthan government, has been remanded in custody until June 21 following his arrest for allegedly engaging in espionage activities on behalf of Pakistan. Khan was presented in court on Tuesday after completing an eight-day remand period.
Serving as the Assistant Administrative Officer at the Jaisalmer Employment Office, Khan was detained recently amid suspicions of espionage.
From 2008 to 2013, he worked as a personal assistant to Saleh Mohammad, a Congress leader and former MLA from Pokhran, who later held a ministerial position in the Rajasthan government.
The Investigating Officer opted not to request an extension of the remand, leading the court to place Khan under judicial custody.
Authorities indicated that if further questioning is required, Khan may be taken on remand from jail.
Forensic analysis of a mobile device retrieved from Shakur Khan has uncovered connections to an individual named Danish, allegedly linked to the Pakistan High Commission.
“Conversations between Shakur and Danish reveal numerous instances of sensitive information sharing with a Pakistani agency,” officials stated.
“Today, Shakur Khan was presented in court following an eight-day remand, with the court remanding him to jail until June 21. During the remand, a search of his residence uncovered a passport issued in 2019,” officials added.
“Danish's connection has been established through the mobile phone found with Shakur. The chats indicate multiple conversations where Shakur transmitted significant information to the Pakistani agency. The mobile device has been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for advanced data recovery, which will determine the next steps in the investigation,” officials noted.
Authorities are also investigating seven international trips undertaken by Shakur Khan and have requested records from the Jaisalmer Employment Department regarding the approval of his foreign travels.
Shakur Khan began his career in government service in 2000 as a peon at the Jaisalmer Employment Office and progressed through the ranks to become an Assistant Administrative Officer.
