Chennai, July 24 (NationPress) In an unexpected twist within the Pattali Makkal Katchi, party founder Dr. S. Ramadoss made a formal request to the Director General of Police (DGP) on Thursday, seeking to stop his son, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, from utilizing the PMK flag during his anticipated statewide campaign.
This action highlights the deepening divide between the veteran politician and his son, the former PMK president Anbumani.
Dr. Ramadoss has called on the DGP to prevent Anbumani from employing the PMK party flag and symbols during the upcoming campaign titled “Tamil Nadu People’s Rights Retrieval Journey”, which is set to kick off on Friday (July 25).
He also requested a prohibition on party officials taking part in the yatra, asserting that the initiative has not received the endorsement of the party’s founder.
The petition has ignited fresh debate, particularly as Anbumani’s campaign is scheduled to start on July 25, coinciding with his father's birthday, which is celebrated in the party as Pasumai Thaayagam Day.
The yatra aims to reclaim ten vital rights for the people of Tamil Nadu and is expected to conclude on November 1 -- recognized by the party as Tamil Nadu Day -- in Dharmapuri.
Anbumani, formerly the party president, has declared that the campaign will focus on crucial issues such as social justice, women’s safety, employment opportunities, good governance, and access to quality health and education services.
According to a statement from the party, the initial phase of the yatra from July 25 to August 4 will span across Assembly constituencies including Thiruporur, Chengalpattu, Uthiramerur, Kancheepuram, Sriperumbudur, Ambattur, Maduravoyal, Gummidipoondi, Tiruvallur, Tiruttani, Sholinghur, Ranipet, Arcot, Vellore, and Vaniyambadi.
As of now, the DGP has yet to respond to the petition.
Nevertheless, the internal discord within PMK -- once perceived as a cohesive father-son political alliance -- has now become public, raising concerns about the party's future direction and leadership.
