In a conversation with IANS, Syed Chishti expressed gratitude towards the Indian government and our security agencies for the successful extradition of Tahawwur Rana from the United States. He termed this event a diplomatic triumph for India and a testament to the robust leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The message is unequivocal — terrorists cannot evade justice indefinitely. We possess the means to ensure they return to face accountability.

He underscored that this extradition conveys a significant message to all those engaged in terrorism.

“Rana’s extradition is a tribute to the martyrs of the 26/11 attacks. It provides solace for Indians who continue to bear the scars of that tragic day. This action exemplifies India’s unwavering stance against terrorism,” he remarked.

Chishti further conveyed optimism that others implicated in the attacks, such as David Coleman Headley and additional fugitives, will also face justice.

“The leadership is resolute, and I am confident that the day is not far when more terrorists linked to the 26/11 attacks will be extradited to India,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken custody of Rana following his extradition. The accused, a principal conspirator in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, arrived in India on Thursday evening after a US court sanctioned his extradition.

Sources revealed that Rana's interrogation commenced on Friday morning at NIA headquarters in New Delhi. He is anticipated to be questioned about his involvement in the attacks, his connection with David Headley, and alleged affiliations with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI.

Rana is expected to be interrogated regarding his visits to India and the individuals he interacted with during those times. Officials are hopeful that new insights will arise during the questioning.

Rana will be held in NIA custody for a duration of 18 days.
