Ranchi, April 18 (NationPress) In a disturbing incident targeting business owners in Jharkhand, a jeweller was shot and injured by assailants in Ranchi on Friday afternoon, as reported by officials.

The shooting occurred at Chatakpur market, located under the jurisdiction of Ratu police station, where two individuals on a motorcycle entered the shop of Basant Kumar, the proprietor of Akash Jewellers, and opened fire.

Upon hearing the gunfire, locals rushed to the scene. The attackers swiftly escaped on their motorcycle, managing to evade capture despite attempts by bystanders to pursue them.

The injured jeweller was quickly transported to the hospital, and the residents promptly alerted the Ratu police. Station House Officer Ramnarayan arrived with his team to initiate an investigation, stating that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.

Basant Kumar suffered a bullet wound to his shoulder and has been admitted to City Hospital. Medical professionals have indicated that he is in stable condition and is no longer in danger.

In his account to the police, Basant Kumar mentioned that he was alone in his shop when the two men on the motorcycle arrived. “One of them aimed a revolver at me and demanded I open the safe. When I refused, he shot at me. I ducked, but the bullet hit my shoulder,” he recounted while receiving treatment in the hospital.

The motive behind the attack remains uncertain, with authorities investigating whether it was an attempted robbery or a case of personal vendetta.

This marks the third such incident in Ranchi in recent weeks. Approximately 20 days ago, Bhupal Sahu, a shoe shop owner near ‘Ravi Steel’ under Pandra Outpost, was fatally shot inside his store by assailants posing as customers. One suspect from that incident has been arrested.

Additionally, earlier, BJP leader Anil Tiger was also killed by criminals at Kanke Chowk in Ranchi, raising public concerns regarding the declining law and order situation in the state.
