Bengaluru, Feb 25 (NationPress) In an effort to enhance the presence of MLAs during the Karnataka Assembly's Budget session, Speaker U.T. Khader has proposed the introduction of recliner facilities for the legislators.
This initiative, spearheaded by Khader, aims to encourage proactive participation in the Assembly.
Initially, the plan is to rent 15 recliners from March 3 to 21, which will be set up in the lobby of the Vidhana Soudha.
This decision follows feedback from senior MLAs and observations that many legislators do not return to the session after stepping out for lunch.
Khader believes that these sofa-like recliners will allow MLAs to take a quick nap, enabling them to rejoin the session with renewed energy.
To save costs, the decision was made to rent the recliners instead of purchasing them, as they would not be used continuously. Once the session concludes, the recliners will be removed.
During the Legislative Session in July 2024, Khader had previously introduced a single recliner chair. Following positive feedback from MLAs, the decision to acquire more recliners was made.
In addition, Khader has started providing breakfast, lunch, tea-coffee, and snacks to address the practical needs of MLAs during sessions.
Attendance tracking has also become a priority for Khader, who acknowledges those MLAs who arrive on time and attends all sessions while calling out those who are tardy or absent.
An Artificial Intelligence system has been implemented to monitor MLA attendance effectively.
The upcoming Karnataka Assembly session is expected to be filled with significant political activity, as the Opposition BJP and JD (S) aim to challenge the ruling Congress over various contentious issues.
On March 7, CM Siddaramaiah will present the Budget for the financial year 2025-26.
