Gurugram, Jan 25 (NationPress) Haryana's Minister of Industry and Commerce, Environment, Forest and Wildlife, Rao Narbir Singh, led a review meeting and toured the site of the proposed Global City along the Dwarka Expressway on Saturday.
During the inspection, project officials briefed the minister on the advancements achieved so far.
Minister Rao emphasized that Gurugram continues to be an attractive destination for global investors, noting that the establishment of a global city will significantly enhance investment opportunities in the region.
“The Global City is slated to be developed on a vast expanse of 1003 acres between NPR and CPR in Gurugram. A comprehensive plan for various plot sizes has already been laid out,” he stated.
The minister indicated that the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of the following year.
This Global City aims to be a cutting-edge, future-ready urban area in Gurugram, centered on a lifestyle that balances living, working, and recreational activities, featuring a design that prioritizes transit-oriented and environmentally sustainable principles.
Officials informed the minister that the city offers multiple access points from National Highway-48, Pataudi Road NH 352W, and the Dwarka Expressway, with a mixed land use distribution comprising 56.08% commercial, 40.05% residential, 2.73% institutional, and 1.14% utility. The average Floor Area Ratio (FAR) stands at 3 (with a range of 1.5 to 12.5) and includes an approximately 6 km long green corridor promoting a healthy lifestyle alongside serene artificial lakes.
The Global City is expected to primarily target the IT and AI sectors, aligning with India's ambitious AI mission, which is budgeted at around 10,000 crores. It is projected to accommodate a resident population exceeding 1.8 lakh and a transient population of 5.8 lakh, generating a direct and indirect employment potential exceeding 4 lakh jobs. Additionally, the project will feature six schools, a college, and a world-class hospital.
Ready-to-move units and land parcels for industry will be available with a single-window clearance for government NOCs, including Environment, Wildlife, Forest, and Aravali clearances.
The city enjoys a prime location, just 15-20 minutes from Indira Gandhi International Airport and in proximity to the world’s largest jungle safari, which spans over 10,000 acres.
An elevated road (currently in development) will connect the Global City to Vatika Chowk, linking it to the existing Delhi-Mumbai expressway. Furthermore, efforts are underway to enhance connectivity with Nelson Mandela Road, facilitating access to Central Delhi.
Thus, Global City will offer seamless, signal-free access from both the airport and the Delhi-Mumbai expressway.
The urban design includes multi-modal transport options such as a Light Rapid Transit (Metro) system featuring six stations, an interchange station with MMTS, dedicated EV bus routes, pedestrian pathways, and cycle tracks. Additionally, the city will have multiple taxi stands, bus depots, and stands, along with a helipad for direct air travel.
The development plans encompass green belts and encroachment-free highways surrounding the Global City, with dedicated cycle tracks providing direct access to both the jungle safari and Cyber City.
The city is being designed to be environmentally friendly, with zero waste discharge and a common utility tunnel measuring 5.5 meters by 5 meters, accommodating water curtain pipes, wastewater pipes, optical fibers, fire hydrant pipes, and electrical cables. The primary objective of the Global City development is to establish Gurugram as the largest global technology hub, boasting a skyline reminiscent of the Manhattan skyline. A dedicated team for the planning and development of the Global City is already in place.
The master planning of the Global City has been entrusted to AECOM, an internationally recognized consultancy firm specializing in similar projects.
