Bhopal, Nov 10 (NationPress) Rewa has entered a promising new phase of connectivity as Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav officially launched the inaugural direct flight from this Madhya Pradesh city to New Delhi on Monday, providing much-needed relief to the residents of Vindhya.
During a video conference, the Chief Minister initiated the operations of the 72-seater aircraft at 10:30 a.m., signifying the commencement of daily air services connecting Rewa with the national capital.
“We are also planning to introduce a helicopter service from Rewa soon. This new air travel will significantly benefit the industrial and mining sectors in Singrauli, as well as attract tourists to Khajuraho, Bandhavgarh, and Panna National Parks,” he stated.
A large gathering of locals, officials, and business representatives was present at the expanded Rewa airstrip to mark this historic moment. The flight, which operates under the UDAN regional connectivity initiative, reduces the travel duration from over 15 hours by road or rail to under two hours by air.
Passengers on this inaugural flight included students, government staff, and business owners, all looking forward to the direct access to Delhi.
“District officials highlighted that this air link will invigorate various sectors. Patients can now reach Delhi’s super-specialty hospitals within the same day. Tourists planning to visit Khajuraho, Bandhavgarh, or Panna will find Rewa a convenient entry point. Students aspiring for coaching or higher education in the capital will benefit from a reliable travel option,” the Chief Minister added.
This service marks the end of long-standing travel difficulties for Rewa residents, who previously had to fly from Prayagraj, Satna, or Jabalpur to reach the national capital. Local cement and soybean exporters also expressed their support for the new route, emphasizing faster access to northern markets and policy centers.
The Rewa airstrip has undergone significant upgrades, with 258 acres of newly acquired land supplementing the existing 65-acre site. Airport officials confirmed that a full-fledged terminal is under construction, and once completed, major airlines will be invited to connect Rewa with Delhi, Indore, Bhopal, and more.
A direct Rewa-Indore service on the same 72-seater aircraft is set to launch in the coming weeks.
Chief Minister Yadav emphasized that this initiative is a stride towards a self-sufficient and well-connected Madhya Pradesh. He assured continued support for airport development and affordable air travel, with subsidized fares under UDAN keeping one-way tickets to Delhi around Rs 2,999, ensuring accessibility for the general population.
As the aircraft took off into the clear morning sky, Rewa officially integrated into India’s expanding network of regionally connected cities, realizing a long-held aspiration with the simple roar of engines and the promise of development.
