Patna, Jan 17 (NationPress) Prominent leaders from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) raised their voices against the Bihar government on Saturday, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the suspicious demise of a NEET aspirant in Patna.
A group of RJD officials, led by former MLA Sanjeev Kumar, met with Patna's Senior Superintendent of Police, Kartikeya Sharma, to express their deep concern regarding the incident.
The delegation accused the Bihar government of jeopardizing the safety of women and claimed that there is an ongoing attempt to conceal the truth surrounding the case.
After their meeting, Sanjeev Kumar stated, "Our trust in the local police is non-existent. If they were genuinely committed to a thorough investigation, we would have seen action from day one."
He contended that the investigation is being intentionally obstructed and insisted that justice cannot be achieved without a CBI inquiry.
The RJD leaders criticized the police's initial assertion that the student's passing was due to food poisoning.
Sanjeev Kumar questioned how the police could reach such a conclusion before the post-mortem results were made available.
"How did the police suddenly become forensic experts? This appears to be a calculated effort to protect influential figures," he asserted.
In a broader context, MLA Sanjeev Kumar also raised concerns about the regulation of private girls' hostels in Patna.
He urged the government to ensure that all girls' hostels are registered with the district administration and that CCTV monitoring in these facilities is overseen by the police department.
"These issues have also been brought to the attention of the Bihar Director General of Police, and we hope to see effective actions taken soon," he mentioned.
The RJD emphasized that the matter extends beyond the tragic death of a single student and pertains to the dignity and justice for impoverished families in Bihar.
According to Sanjeev Kumar, the victim's family is economically disadvantaged, while the accused are influential, which he believes explains the police's "disinterested approach."
Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in Bihar, has warned that if immediate and decisive action is not taken against those responsible and the case is not referred to the CBI, the RJD will initiate a statewide protest.
