Did BJP and JD(U) Support Bihar's CBI Probe into NEET Aspirant's Death?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 31 (NationPress) In a significant move, the Bihar government has initiated a request for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the death of a NEET aspirant at a women's hostel in Patna, striving for a transparent and impartial investigation. Both the BJP and JD(U) expressed their approval of this decision on Saturday.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary took to social media platform 'X', stating, "The Honourable Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, has urged the Government of India to direct a CBI investigation into the murder of a NEET student in Patna (Case No. 14/26). We aim to ensure a transparent and fair inquiry into this incident."
Bihar Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal remarked in an interview with IANS, "A comprehensive investigation was carried out, aiming to uncover every aspect related to this case. Unfortunately, certain individuals are persistently disseminating rumors to tarnish the reputation of the Bihar Police and the state government. Considering the plea from the victim’s family for a CBI investigation, the Bihar government seeks to identify the culprits and ensure they face justice."
Rajeev Ranjan Prasad, JD(U) national spokesperson, commented, "Crucial evidence is now surfacing before the Special Investigation Team (SIT). Video evidence and all Call Detail Records (CDRs) pertinent to this tragic event have been collected. The SIT will conclude its investigation methodically, and I assure the victim’s family that justice will prevail. The Bihar Police are diligently working towards this goal."
Bihar Minister Lakhendra Paswan stated, "Justice will be served without exception. Regardless of the power one holds, no one is above the law. Legal actions are ongoing against all implicated parties in this case."
The victim, hailing from Jehanabad district, was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) while residing in a women's hostel in Chitragupt Nagar, Patna.
Earlier this month, the NEET aspirant was discovered unconscious in her hostel room under suspicious circumstances. She was transported to a private hospital, where she remained in a coma for several days before tragically passing away on January 11.
The victim’s family has claimed that she was sexually assaulted and has accused authorities of attempting to obscure the truth. They have voiced their dissatisfaction with the police investigation and have called for a high-level inquiry.
On January 28, the victim's father requested a judicial inquiry into the situation and threatened self-immolation if justice was not served.
Critical developments in the case emerged on January 27, when the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) collected blood samples from 11 individuals as part of the investigation. Those sampled included the hostel owner, Manish Ranjan, five relatives of the deceased, and six other suspects.
The suspects include individuals identified in CCTV footage from the vicinity, as well as those who assisted in transporting the student to the hospital after she was found unconscious. DNA samples are being gathered from all suspects to ascertain their potential involvement in the crime.
According to official records, the victim was a minor, a fact corroborated by her age certificate. Consequently, investigators are preparing to invoke provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in this case.
