New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) The Centre announced on Tuesday that it has allocated Rs 620 crore under the 15th Finance Commission for the rural local bodies in Maharashtra for the financial year 2024–25.

This funding includes the second installment of Untied Grants totaling Rs 611.6913 crore and a withheld portion of the first installment amounting to Rs 8.4282 crore.

The financial assistance will benefit four eligible District Panchayats, 40 Block Panchayats, and 21,551 Gram Panchayats across the state, as stated by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.

The Untied Grants are designated for use by Panchayati Raj Institutions and rural local bodies to address specific local needs, excluding salaries and other administrative expenses.

Meanwhile, the Tied Grants are intended for essential services such as sanitation, maintenance of the Open Defecation Free (ODF) status, provision of drinking water, rainwater harvesting, and water recycling initiatives.

The government, through the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti, endorses the release of Fifteenth Finance Commission (XV FC) Grants to states for rural local bodies, which are subsequently disbursed by the Ministry of Finance.

Grants are typically allocated and released in two installments throughout the financial year.

Earlier this month, grants worth Rs 699 crore were disbursed for rural local bodies in West Bengal under the 15th Finance Commission.

This included the second installment of Untied Grants amounting to Rs 694.4446 crore and a withheld portion of the first installment totaling Rs 4.9323 crore, as reported by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.

This funding supports 21 District Panchayats, 326 Block Panchayats, and 3,220 Gram Panchayats in the state.

This financial support enhances rural local governance, boosts accountability, and fosters self-reliance within villages across India.

Previously, the Centre allocated Rs 1,086.06 crore for the rural local bodies of Bihar, Haryana, and Sikkim for the financial year 2024–25.
