New Delhi, Oct 6 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared an article on Monday that praises the transformational effects of the Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society (ULLAS) initiative for adult learners, as stated by an official.
Initiated in 2022 as a cornerstone of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the program has notably broadened educational prospects for adult learners throughout India, particularly targeting rural areas and women.
In response to a post on X from Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhury, the PMO India account remarked: “In this article, MoS Shri @jayantrld elaborates on how the ULLAS initiative, launched in 2022 in accordance with the NEP 2020, is facilitating educational access for adults.”
“He emphasizes that literacy rates among rural populations and women have significantly increased due to the ULLAS initiative, positioning India to meet the UN’s SDG literacy goals by 2030,” the post stated.
Last month, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that Himachal Pradesh is now the fifth fully literate State/Union Territory, following Tripura, Mizoram, Goa, and Ladakh.
This achievement underscores the impact of collaborative efforts by the government, society, and volunteers.
During an event commemorating International Literacy Day, Pradhan reiterated PM Modi’s vision of education as the cornerstone of civilization and called for a renewed commitment to fostering a literate, self-sufficient, and developed India.
The theme for this year’s celebration was “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era,” which underscored the essential role of digital technology in facilitating reading, writing, numeracy, and lifelong learning skills nationwide.
Himachal Pradesh has now joined Tripura, Mizoram, and Goa as the fourth state to reach full functional literacy. On June 24, 2024, Ladakh was recognized as the first Union Territory to achieve full literacy.
