Key Takeaways
Agartala/Thiruvananthapuram, March 26 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister, Manik Saha, is poised to deliver speeches at two significant election rallies in Kerala on Thursday, contributing to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign for the state's upcoming elections for a 140-member Assembly.
As per sources within the BJP from Agartala, Saha left for Bengaluru on Wednesday afternoon and arrived in Kannur Thursday morning. Later today, he will speak at an election gathering at Chandragiri Auditorium in favor of BJP candidate Prasanth Malavayal, who is contesting in the Kalpetta Assembly constituency.
Following this event, the Chief Minister will hold another rally at Town Junction in the Dharmadam Assembly constituency, backing BJP candidate K. Renith.
In this very constituency, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is aiming for re-election. A BJP leader in Agartala remarked, “This visit signifies an important effort by the BJP leadership to invigorate party workers and engage with voters in these pivotal constituencies in Kerala.”
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is contesting all 140 Assembly seats in Kerala, with elections scheduled for April 9. The BJP is fielding candidates in 99 constituencies, while its allies will contest the remaining seats.
The party made its entry in Kerala during the 2016 Assembly elections by winning the Nemom constituency in the Thiruvananthapuram district, but lost the seat in the 2021 elections. In those polls, the BJP finished second in nine constituencies, indicating growing support in certain areas.
After wrapping up his campaign in Kerala, CM Saha is expected to return to Agartala on Friday to lead the BJP’s efforts for the upcoming elections to the 30-member Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and the by-election for the Dharmanagar Assembly seat in North Tripura.
The TTAADC elections are set for April 12, while the Dharmanagar Assembly by-election will take place on April 9.
Previously, Chief Minister Saha, along with several senior BJP leaders from Tripura, including state party president Rajib Bhattacharjee, participated in the campaign for the West Bengal Assembly elections. Polling for the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will occur in two phases: April 23 for 152 seats and April 29 for the remaining 142 seats.
