Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Silchar (Assam), March 29 (NationPress) - The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, expressed strong assurance that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will achieve a significant victory in the Silchar constituency during the forthcoming Assembly elections in southern Assam.
Speaking at an election rally held at Kirtania Ground on Satsang Ashram Road, Saha declared that the BJP candidate, Rajdeep Roy, is poised to win with a “substantial margin.”
Saha did not hold back in his criticism of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), labeling it a “corrupt government,” in stark contrast to the BJP-led administration at the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated, “The populace has confidence in the Prime Minister. Under his stewardship, the nation is progressing on a developmental trajectory.”
Reflecting on the political changes in Tripura, he claimed the BJP had put an end to “35 years of misrule” by the Left Front. “The pivotal moment came in 2014 when Modi assumed office. This transformation is now evident here as well,” he remarked.
Saha also pointed out that elections for the TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) and a by-election in the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency are approaching, labeling them vital for the state. Despite these commitments, he made it a priority to attend the Silchar rally in support of the party's supporters.
“Visiting Silchar feels akin to returning to Agartala. A significant number of people here have deep-rooted connections with Tripura,” he noted. Additionally, he mentioned that Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are also expected to campaign in the area.
While critiquing previous governments, Saha reflected on the uncertainty and security issues faced prior to 2014. “We experienced rampant corruption during the Congress and UPA rule, both at the national level and in Assam. Conversely, the current administration focuses on transparency and effective governance,” he asserted.
He underscored the significance of the Northeast, mentioning that the Prime Minister has referred to the region as “Ashtalakshmi” and emphasized that India’s growth hinges on the advancement of its northeastern states.
Saha highlighted the Centre’s Act East Policy as a crucial element for regional development.
Numerous BJP leaders were present at the rally, including Silchar MP Parimal Shukla Baidya, MLAs Dipayan Chakraborty and Nihar Kanti Das, and former district president Bimalendu Roy.
Rajdeep Roy, the BJP candidate for the Silchar Assembly seat, is a former Lok Sabha member and a party observer for Tripura. The BJP has chosen Roy to contest, replacing the sitting MLA Dipayan Chakraborty.
