CM Saha Predicts Certain Defeat for TMP in Tribal Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Agartala, April 9 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister, Manik Saha, confidently stated on Thursday that the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) is destined for defeat in the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections. He accused the regional party of engaging in corruption, deceit, and divisive politics in recent times.
While addressing a rally, Saha expressed his belief that the voters of the TTAADC would “create history” on April 12 by delivering a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which he emphasized is crucial for the advancement of the Tiprasa (tribal communities).
Saha criticized the TMP for betraying the Janajati (tribal) community under the guise of Thansa (a word meaning unity) and for inciting ethnic sentiments in their political strategies. He stated, “To foster the development of Tiprasa, the BJP must secure a commanding mandate.”
The Chief Minister spoke at a rally held at Kalachhara in South Tripura, supporting a BJP-nominated candidate for the April 12 TTAADC elections. He also attended another rally endorsing BJP candidate Abhijit Tripura in the East Muhuripur Bhuratli constituency.
During his speech, Saha remarked on the various forms of politics present in the state and criticized the Leader of the Opposition for allegedly lacking the courage to contest from a reserved tribal seat.
In response to opposition criticism, he addressed the Leader of the Opposition (LoP), stating that the LoP had accused him of being “politically bankrupt.” The current LoP of Tripura is Jitendra Chaudhury, the Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Saha refuted allegations regarding encroachment on government land in Boxanagar, pointing out that three-fourths of the opposition party's office in Amarpur was constructed on government land. He noted that the case was brought to the High Court, where it was dismissed, and there were demands to demolish the office.
He further claimed that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Congress have been accusing the BJP of engaging in political “understanding” with the Tipra Motha Party.
“We are being falsely accused of participating in ‘got-up’ politics. However, during the Assembly elections, Tipra Motha did not field a candidate against him. So who is genuinely playing ‘got-up’? This confusion is being deliberately propagated to mislead the public,” he asserted.
Criticizing the Congress party, Saha stated, “Discussing Congress yields little value. I will say it plainly: if there is any disordered party, it is Congress. Meanwhile, our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is focused on strengthening the nation, while Congress seeks to undermine it.”
Reiterating his criticism of the Tipra Motha Party, the Chief Minister claimed that the party lacks a coherent philosophy and is fostering divisions within society along ethnic lines.
“The Tipra Motha Party is damaging the Janajati people by misappropriating the concept of Thansa and misleading the community. In contrast, the BJP is dedicated to the welfare of all societal segments. We advocate for unity and collective advancement,” he emphasized.
Referring to PM Modi’s vision, Saha mentioned that the government operates under the principle that everyone is a stakeholder in development and progress.
“Our state government is aligned with this vision, promoting inclusive growth and participation from all communities,” he added.
The TTAADC, which comprises 30 members, including 28 elected representatives and two members nominated by the state government, is set to conduct polls on April 12. Since 2021, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), an ally of the BJP, has been governing this strategically significant council, which administers nearly two-thirds of Tripura’s 10,491 square kilometers.
