Lucknow, March 30 (NationPress) The Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh, which recently faced communal tensions surrounding the Shahi Jama Masjid survey, witnessed vibrant festivities on the inaugural day of Chaitra Navratri. Numerous devotees surged to various temples to pay their respects to Goddess Durga.

From the break of dawn, temples were filled with spiritual energy as worshippers arrived as early as 4:00 AM on Sunday to offer prayers and undertake fasts in devotion to the goddess.

The Siddh Peeth Shri Chamunda Devi Temple drew in thousands of devotees who queued up to receive blessings from Ma Durga.

The temple’s Mahant, Murli Singh, elaborated on the temple’s rich heritage and the significance of Navratri.

“Our Siddh Peeth in Sambhal is an ancient temple. Since Sambhal's inception, this site has honored the goddess. Navratri is celebrated biannually, in Chaitra and Sharad (Ashwin), with a grand nine-day festival. Over 10,000 devotees visit the temple daily during Navratri,” he mentioned.

As part of the temple rituals, a sacred flame (Divya Jyoti) is transported from the venerated Maa Jwala Devi Temple in Himachal Pradesh. Devotees engaged in the aarti, reciting prayers and seeking divine blessings for prosperity and happiness.

A female devotee expressed her elation, stating, “Today, in the temple, we are praying for the prosperity of all. We are also grateful to God for the bountiful harvest and favorable weather, as everyone is in high spirits. Just as we celebrated Holi with enthusiasm, Navratri has now commenced and will be honored with similar devotion and zeal.”

The Navratri festivities in UP, particularly in Sambhal district, are expected to be filled with splendor, as devotees, especially women, prepare for traditional events such as Garba and Dandiya, adorning vibrant lehengas to elevate the festive atmosphere.
