Sambhal, July 5 (NationPress) As the Muharram processions are set to take place throughout Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh this Sunday, local authorities have heightened security protocols and are closely monitoring efforts to guarantee a peaceful observance of the sacred occasion.
Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar Bishnoi announced that a total of 342 Tazias will be paraded in various locations across the district.
Meetings of peace committees have been conducted in all regions ahead of time, establishing collaboration with Tazia organizers, he added.
In terms of security, each Tazia Dar has provided a list of appointed volunteers, who have received unique identification cards from the police. This will enable law enforcement to quickly recognize and assist them in any emergencies.
The SP emphasized that the height of every Tazia has been capped at a maximum of 12 feet. In previous years, excessively large Tazias often necessitated the temporary removal or alteration of electrical wires, leading to disruptions and financial losses of about Rs 35-40 lakh. However, this year, no such modifications are necessary, as all processions are complying with the designated height and route regulations.
A significant aspect of this year's preparations is the improved surveillance system. Under the 'Sambhal Ke Naam' initiative, over 12,000 NPR (Number Plate Recognition) and community-installed CCTV cameras have been set up throughout the district. This will facilitate real-time monitoring of the processions. Additionally, drone cameras will provide aerial oversight of the entire route.
To further enhance security, three companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and one company of the Rapid Response Force (RRF) have been deployed. Law enforcement personnel will maintain a heightened state of alert throughout the event.
SP Bishnoi also issued a firm warning against any attempts to disrupt communal harmony.
“Strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to disturb the peace. Cyber commandos are actively monitoring social media for provocative or misleading content,” he stated.
He added that three cases have already been filed, and several individuals have been jailed for disseminating inflammatory content. The most recent incident occurred in the Asmoli police station area, where a young man was apprehended and incarcerated.
Appealing for public cooperation, the SP expressed confidence that Muharram would be observed without incident.
“We anticipate full support from all communities. Together, we can ensure that the occasion unfolds smoothly,” the SP affirmed.
Sambhal gained attention in November of last year when violence erupted following a court-ordered ASI survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, tragically resulting in five fatalities. Since then, the district administration has been implementing careful and measured strategies to maintain communal harmony and avert any further unrest in the area.
