Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 29 (NationPress) - The Congress party has appointed Sandeep Dikshit as the new chairperson of ‘Rachnatmak Congress’, previously referred to as the Outreach Cell. This initiative aims to foster collaboration with civil society, academics, and activists on critical policy issues, including the rural employment scheme.
In a statement, K.C. Venugopal, the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, confirmed the appointment made by National President Mallikarjun Kharge. “The Congress President has appointed Sandeep Dikshit as the Chairperson of Rachnatmak Congress, effective immediately,” Venugopal stated.
“Rachnatmak Congress will serve as a specialized platform for dialogue with civil society organizations, domain specialists, academics, activists, and issue-focused groups,” he added.
“The main objective will be to promote significant discussions on a variety of policy issues and social challenges, allowing the Congress party to gain from a wide array of insights and grassroots knowledge,” Venugopal further elaborated.
Dikshit, aged 60, is a two-time Member of Parliament representing East Delhi and is the son of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. He is recognized as a prominent Congress figure and was instrumental in the formulation of several key legislative measures, including the MGNREGA Bill and the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill following the 2012 Delhi incidents, as well as the Land Acquisition Bill.
This new position is particularly noteworthy as Kharge has declared a nationwide protest against the perceived abandonment of MGNREGA by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration.
Sandeep Dikshit is also well-regarded for his extensive experience in development, public policy, agriculture, and issues concerning tribal communities.
With nearly twenty years of experience in rural and human development across states such as Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, he also imparts knowledge on Human Development and public policy at a private university in Sonepat, Haryana.
This organizational change comes at a time when there is an increasing call for the party's fortification.
Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh, along with MP Shashi Tharoor, has both emphasized the necessity of enhancing the party's structure with discipline.
