Ranchi, Feb 16 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth has conveyed his profound sadness regarding the tragic stampede at New Delhi Railway Station, which resulted in the loss of 18 lives.
"We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate event. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected. The Prime Minister has consistently expressed his sorrow over such incidents. However, some individuals are attempting to belittle India and Sanatan Dharma after this tragedy, which is entirely unacceptable," he remarked.
During a press interaction in Ranchi on Sunday, Seth highlighted the significance of the Kumbh Mela, describing it as the largest religious congregation of Sanatan Dharma.
"To date, 54 crore people have participated in the Kumbh – a figure surpassing the population of the United States. Despite the vast number of attendees, there have been no issues for anyone, and there is no VIP culture. Millions are uniting in harmony, which embodies the true essence of Sanatan Dharma. Sant Ravidas has taught us that anyone who partakes in the Kumbh is a Sanatani, irrespective of their caste," he asserted.
Seth criticized RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav for labeling the Kumbh visit as "useless," stating, "Whether it’s Lalu Yadav or Rahul Gandhi, their sole aim is to undermine India and Sanatan Dharma. Their politics revolve around appeasement. Lalu Yadav, who has been convicted in the fodder scam, misappropriated funds intended for cows, which every Sanatani reveres. What does he know about the sanctity of the Kumbh?"
The incident unfolded as a large crowd of travelers rushed to platforms 14 and 15, eager to board trains to Prayagraj for the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela.
The stampede resulted from a sudden surge in passengers trying to catch evening trains to the holy city, leading to overcrowding and disorder.
A two-member committee has been formed to investigate this tragic event at New Delhi Railway Station. They visited the scene on Sunday, interviewed witnesses, and collected the CCTV footage available.
The committee, consisting of Narsingh Deo, PCCM/Northern Railway, and Pankaj Gangwar, PCSC Northern Railway, has instructed the preservation of video recordings from platforms 14 and 15, where the extensive crowd had accumulated.
Sources indicate that the investigation panel is also tasked with examining whether rumors contributed to the incident, which led waiting passengers to switch between the two platforms, culminating in the crushing on platform 14.
