Patna, Feb 16 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, has declared a financial assistance package for the families of the victims from the state following the tragic stampede at New Delhi railway station.

In a heartfelt statement on X, he expressed his sorrow over the unfortunate loss of life, saying, “The passing of individuals in this tragic event at New Delhi Railway Station is profoundly heart-wrenching. I beseech God to grant the bereaved families the fortitude to cope with this grief. We will provide Rs 2 lakh ex gratia to the dependents of the deceased from Bihar, along with Rs 50,000 for the injured individuals from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. I also wish a prompt recovery for those injured.”

In parallel, the Indian Railways has declared a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives during the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. Furthermore, Rs 2.5 lakh will be allocated to those seriously harmed, while those with minor injuries will receive Rs 1 lakh.

Reports indicate that at least 18 individuals lost their lives during the nighttime stampede at the congested New Delhi Railway Station, with several others sustaining injuries.

The stampede is thought to have been triggered by a rush of passengers eager to board trains heading to Prayagraj for the ongoing Maha Kumbh event, particularly on platforms 14 and 15.

According to Northern Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer, Himanshu Upadhyay, “Some individuals descending from the footover bridge towards platforms 14 and 15 slipped and fell onto others.”

Notably, nine of the 18 deceased individuals were reported to be residents of Bihar.
