Patna, Feb 16 (NationPress) Tejashwi Yadav, a prominent leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has conveyed his profound sadness regarding the tragic stampede that occurred at New Delhi Railway Station, resulting in the loss of 15 lives.
As the leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi accused the central government of attempting to obscure the incident instead of prioritizing public safety.
He further condemned the double-engine government for concentrating on media public relations rather than ensuring adequate arrangements for devotees, claiming that their attention is disproportionately focused on VIP amenities while neglecting the needs of ordinary citizens.
"It is disheartening to witness such untimely deaths caused by the chaos and stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. Despite the extensive resources at the government's disposal, devotees are losing their lives, and the double-engine government seems more occupied with public relations than addressing these tragic events," he stated.
During this moment of sorrow, Tejashwi extended his condolences to the families affected, praying for peace for the departed souls and a swift recovery for those injured. Om Shanti, he expressed.
This incident has ignited a political discourse, with opposition parties directing their criticism towards the BJP-led Central government.
The stampede transpired on Saturday night amid a massive crowd and disarray on platforms 13 and 14 at New Delhi Railway Station.
Numerous injured individuals are receiving treatment at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital and Lady Hardinge Hospital in Delhi. The casualty count may escalate as several injured remain in critical condition.
At least three individuals from Bihar lost their lives in this incident. Authorities are diligently working to identify the deceased and provide assistance to the affected families.
Railway officials confirmed that overcrowding was the primary cause of the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night.
An official reported that the Prayagraj Express was stationed at platform 14, drawing a significant number of passengers, while delays in the Swatantrata Senani Express and Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express exacerbated congestion, spiraling it out of control.
DCP Railway of New Delhi KPS Malhotra mentioned: "The Prayagraj Express was parked on platform 14, creating a massive rush. The late arrival of the Swatantrata Senani Express and Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express led to an overflow of passengers on platforms 12, 13, and 14, triggering panic and chaos, which culminated in the stampede."
Authorities are now conducting an investigation into the failure of crowd management and are working towards implementing enhanced safety protocols at railway stations during peak hours.
