Guwahati, March 24 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a fierce critique of the Congress party regarding the dismissal of its candidate’s nomination. He also unveiled various plans for development and welfare initiatives as the elections approach.
In response to the ongoing controversy, Sarma quipped at the opposition, stating, “If the Congress is dissatisfied, they might as well contest elections in Pakistan,” igniting a new round of political conflict within the state.
It is important to note that the Election Commission has denied the nominations of three Congress candidates during the scrutiny process.

Addressing reporters, the Chief Minister remarked that the review of nomination papers is a lawful and procedural matter, and the responsible authorities will adhere strictly to the guidelines set forth by the Election Commission.
“It is not my wish for any nomination to be invalidated. However, if a submission is incorrect, it will be dismissed in line with the regulations,” he stated.
Sarma also indicated that eviction operations would be initiated in several areas of Barpeta district following the elections.
“After the voting concludes, we will proceed with eviction in various locations in Barpeta,” he confirmed, asserting that the government is committed to addressing encroachments.
In a move aimed at enhancing development, Sarma announced the construction of a new flyover in Bhawanipur intended to alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the area.
He highlighted that expanding infrastructure remains a top priority for the state administration.
In a significant gesture towards unemployed youth, the Chief Minister pledged financial aid of Rs 2 lakh to eligible individuals.
“We will offer Rs 2 lakh to unemployed young men and women to assist them in becoming self-sufficient and improving their livelihoods,” he stated.
